The Musikverein in Vienna is considered to be one of the finest concert halls in the world and is most famous for its one-of-a-kind acoustics. Donated by the emperor Franz Joseph to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (Society of  Music Lovers) and built by Theophil von Hansen it was opened in 1870.
Since then most of the greatest Conductors, finest musicians and orchestras – led by the famous Vienna Philharmonic – performed at the great concert hall and fell in love with the Musikverein.
The Main Concert Hall (also called “Golden Hall”) provides the most festive atmosphere as well as a unique acoustics, thanks to ideal proportions, volume and its architectural details.

“As high as any expectations could be, they would still be exceeded by the first impression of the hall which displays an architectural beauty and a stylish splendor making it the only one of its kind”  (Press critics at opening of the Musikverein in 1870; from www.musikverein.at)

German Magazine "Stereoplay" rated Viennas Musikverein as soundwise the best concert hall in the world.

Of course there are many more splendid musical venues such as the Konzerthaus, not to mention the top opera house, the Wiener Staatsoper.

Vienna offers also a vivid Jazz Scene.
World famous Joe Zawinul - a native Viennese - opened his Jazz Club "Birdland" only a few years before he died in 2007.
